Work Method

Upon commissioning a portrait I first arrange a sitting in my studio or travel to the client's location. Initially I will meet to get acquainted and discuss with the client the type of portrait desired, including poses, lighting, wardrobe, preferences in attitude, style and mood. It is important to know as well where the painting will be viewed which can determined the size of the portrait. These and other considerations will help create a memorable experience and a portrait they will treasure for a lifetime.

Following the initial photo sessions review, the client will select an image that will serve as reference for the final portrait. Then three or four sketches will be composed in color to arrive at the best possible composition, and then submitted for review with the client. A digital file will be sent of the sketches and any issues with the final pose that is selected will be discussed either by phone or email before coming to an agreement.

When the painting is nearly completed a digital image will be sent for review, or whenever possible the painting will be viewed in person in case any changes need to be made. Delivery is arranged upon completion of the portrait. Ms. Goldsmith is please to assist with framing advice if the client so desires.
